Global Prebiotics Week commences for 2023: Powering the Microbiome

Clasado Biosciences announces its enthusiastic support for Global Prebiotics Week 2023, taking place from 6 – 10 November.

The annual event, organised by the Global Prebiotic Association (GPA), is intended to accelerate awareness of prebiotics at every level of the market from consumer to research and academia. The theme for this year’s event is ‘Powering the Microbiome,’ highlighting the essential role of prebiotics in supporting gut health through nourishing advantageous probiotic bacteria.

Hosted annually during the first full week of November, Global Prebiotics Week aims to enhance public and industry awareness of the rapidly expanding prebiotics category and signpost where the industry could move in the future. This event equips consumers and formulators with a deeper understanding of the profound connection between the gut microbiome and human health, and the significant role that prebiotics could play in future health strategies.

One of the highlights of this year’s event will be the GPA’s release of key insights from its new consumer insights report, which will be particularly relevant to the health and nutrition sectors.

Among the findings of the 2023 consumer prebiotic survey were an increase in the percentage of prebiotic users identifying as ‘regular’ users, as well as the rising appeal of branded ingredients, such as Bimuno® GOS over white-labelled or generic alternatives. Throughout the week, the GPA will be revealing more insights from its prebiotic consumer study across its social media channels.

Per Rehné, CEO at Clasado Biosciences, emphasises the importance of education in the field of prebiotics and gut health: “We’re at a critical juncture in the prebiotics industry, and we’re looking at enormous growth potential across the wider biotics category. Clasado is a key supporter of the Global Prebiotics Association, and as one of the organisations at the forefront of prebiotic science, we have a lot to contribute when it comes to boosting knowledge.

“Our studies on our multi-award-winning galactooligosaccharide ingredient Bimuno GOS show this very clearly, with recent research exploring its application in areas such as sports and athletic health, and where it fits into speciality low-FODMAP diets.

“Excitingly, consumers are engaging with gut health on a whole new level. They are proactively learning more about the gut microbiome, and why our bacterial composition is so important for health and wellbeing. Naturally, this desire to know more leans towards prebiotics that nourish beneficial bacteria in the host. Events like Global Prebiotics Week expedite this learning process and give formulators a glimpse of the potential of this newly engaged market.”

Businesses in the prebiotics industry are invited to take part in the awareness week, using hashtags #GPW2023, #PoweringTheMicrobiome and #PrebioticInfo.
